Frequently Asked Questions

BACK TO GREAT LEGAL QUIZ
Q. What is the Great Legal Quiz?
A. The Great Legal Quiz is a nationwide event where participants organise a quiz night, as you might usually do, for your colleagues, friends and family. We will provide you with some promotional material all you have to do is sign up as a Quiz Master for your team and get revising!
Q. When is the Great Legal Quiz?
A. In order to ensure there is no score jiggling or spoilers all teams participating will compete simultaneously. All  teams will be asked to complete the quiz on one evening. Teams are free to complete the quiz after this date but will not be eligible to enter the overall competition for the highest national score.

Q. What will the Quiz Master have to do?

A. Quiz Masters will be responsible for coordinating their organisation’s quiz. This will include finding a venue (it could be held in your local or favourite pub or even your house or the office after hours with permission!) and organising the fundraising. If you have a lot of people wanting to participate you may also need to divide people into smaller teams.

Owing to Covid-19, we are encouraging quizzes to take place both online and/ or person. You can do this by connecting your quiz competitors online through Zoom, Skype or other video conferencing software. Each participant can play individually, or if you have a lot of people wanting to participate you may also wish to divide people into smaller teams of up to 6 who could discuss their answers (away from the video call via their own WhatsApp group chat if virtual). The choice is yours!

After the event we will be asking our Quiz Masters to send us the money raised by the event and the scores from their quiz.
Q. How much does it cost to take part in the quiz?
A. It is free to register however we ask that each participant pledges to raise as much money as they can at their quiz.
Q. What will we be sent and when?
A. Quiz Masters will be sent materials to advertise their quiz along with information tips on fundraising and why the money is so important upon registration.

Quiz Masters will receive the standardised questions, used by all registered quiz teams across the country, on the day of the event to ensure it is as fair as possible!
Q. Do I have to be a legal professional to take part?
A. No, anybody is welcome to join the quiz; lawyers, support staff, students, legal advice providers, friends and family are all welcome.
Q. How many people do I need in my team? Can I take part individually?
A. There is no minimum or maximum number for a team. We recommend £5-10 per person, however all amounts great or small are welcome! Individual participants are most welcome to take part.
Q. How do we start fundraising?
A. Simply arrange and advertise your quiz night to colleagues, clients, friends and family. You can consider charging an entry fee and set the pricing as you see fit. You may want to consider some additional options for increasing your fundraising; ideas include such as holding a bake sale, organising a bring and buy, hosting a film night for family and friends or holding an auction of promises – the list is endless! Please see our Fundraising Hints and Tips for inspiration.
Q. When and where do I give my sponsorship money?
A. If you are an advice agency you can keep 100% of the funds from the quiz, all you have to do is let us know how much was raised. All other quiz monies will be due 3 months after the event. Please send any cheques made payable to The Access to Justice Foundation c/o The Access to Justice Foundation, The Foundry Office Space and Conference Centre, 17 Oval Way, London SE11 5RR.
